where we stand
Adults come to these tools with a self already formed. Most teenagers are still forming one. That timing is the issue, and it's the reason Teens UnEdited exists.
four things we believe
Nobody's identity was ever threatened by a calculator. Language is different. Hunting for the right sentence is how a young person discovers what they actually believe. Hand them the sentence and they miss the discovery.
Self-concept is rebuilt in the mid-teens: Blakemore (Cambridge); Pfeifer (Oregon)
A chatbot never gets tired of your teen and rarely disagrees. Real people do both, and that's useful. Being misread and trying again teaches a teen where they end and someone else begins.
The empathy gap: Kurian (Warwick); Vasan (Stanford)
Many are editing themselves to fit: performing at school, holding back online, hiding the parts a room won't accept. AI doesn't start that habit. It makes it faster and harder to see.
Pope (Stanford); Weinstein (Harvard); Rogers; Covarrubias (UC Santa Cruz); Slepian (Columbia)
The same app lifts one teen and drags down another, so blanket limits miss most of what matters. We teach teens to read any room, AI included, and to know which ones let them thrive. Belonging protects. So do adults who expect a lot and back it up with support.

how we teach it
Glenn Llopis spent 20 years helping adult leaders reclaim identities they had edited away to fit in, usually discovering the loss in a moment of change when they no longer knew where they belonged. The Unmistakably You Method adapts that work for teens, so they learn it before the editing sets in.
Conviction runs through all three: mean it.
to be clear
We don't run a screen-time program, and we aren't therapy. We're built for ages 13 to 18, the years when peers matter most, self-control is still catching up, and belonging is easiest to lose at the door to high school.
Teens: write it yourself first. Then see what the bot says.
Parents: ask what they'd tell a chatbot that they wouldn't tell you. Then listen, without fixing.
Schools: make feedback the default and answers the second step.
Communities: give teens rooms with real stakes, where they're needed, not just supervised.
